MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellow Ann Hamilton is an artist whose complex layered works include installations, videos, performances, and sculptural objects. Her works are often created with the help of many volunteers whose labors give the art a strong sense of connection to society and history. With a dense use of materials, Hamilton’s installations create engaging sensory environments that respond to the architecture and social history of their sites.

Hamilton’s work has been featured at major museums and galleries all over the world, including the Guggenheim Museum, NY; the Contemporary Art Museum, Japan; The Hirshhorn Museum; the Musée d’Art Contemporain, Lyon, France; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Tate Gallery; and the Museum of Modern Art, among many others. She is the recipient of the Heinz Award, the NEA Visual Arts Fellowship, the Tiffany Foundation Award, and the Guggenheim Fellowship. Hamilton represented the United States in the 1999 Venice Biennale and the 1991 São Paulo Bienal.
