Executive Director Abigail Lewis

Abby Lewis serves as the Executive Director of the Council for European Studies at Temple University. Before starting at CES, she served as the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame, where she oversaw student research and grant programs, organized experiential learning, and taught courses in Global Affairs. Abby received her PhD in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her work focuses on the politics of memory in contemporary France and the circulation of photography during and after the Nazi Occupation and the Holocaust.

Prof. Dr. Sachiko Horiguchi 

Sachiko Horiguchi is Professor of Anthropology at Temple University, Japan Campus. She has served as Director of Research at Temple University, Japan Campus since 2024. She is a socio-cultural and medical anthropologist of Japan, and obtained her D.Phil. in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford in 2006. Her research interests lie in education, health, and welfare in contemporary Japan. Her publications include “Challenging the ‘Global’ in the Global Periphery: Performances and Negotiations of Academic and Personal Identities among JET-alumni Japan Scholars Based in Japan” (in Akihiro Ogawa and Philip Seaton, eds. New Frontiers in Japanese Studies, Routledge, 2020), and “Mental Health and Therapy in Japan: Conceptions, Practices, and Challenges” (in Jeff Kingston, ed. Critical Issues in Contemporary Japan [2nd Edition], Routledge, 2019).
