Twyla Tharp has choreographed more than 160 works. She has been awarded the National Medal of Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, a MacArthur Fellowship, two Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, and 19 honorary doctoral degrees. Her work has had a pervasive influence on younger choreographers and has expanded the boundaries of contemporary dance.
